Inspection of Safeguarding and Looked After Children Services in County Durham

(January 2012)

The report of the inspection of safeguarding and looked after children in County Durham held late last year has now been published and Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission have awarded DCC exceptionally high grades. They have judged the overall effectiveness of safeguarding services to be outstanding and the capacity to improve these services is also described as outstanding. The overall effectiveness of services for looked after children in described as good; and the capacity to improve looked after children's services is judged as outstanding. The report is attached below:

One Point

A new service for children, young people and families in County Durham called One Point has been launched.

Partners have worked closely to develop a service that people can easily access all from ‘one point’.

Services on offer include:

  • health visitors
  • school nurses
  • education welfare officers
  • behaviour support workers
  • educational psychologists
  • connexions personal advisors
  • positive activities for young people (YouthWorkers)
  • family support workers
  • and anti-bullying workers

You can access One Point services from any of the ten County Council offices spread throughout the county as well as the Sure Start Children’s Centres, youth centres and a number of health centres. For more information or to find your nearest One Point Centre, call 03000 261111.
