Home working Event 2010

A study titled ‘The Impact and Potential of Home Working in County Durham’ was commissioned jointly by Durham County Council and the County Durham Economic Partnership (CDEP) as part of the evidence base for the County Durham Economic Assessment. The study was carried out by Tribal in association with Rural Innovation and Enterprise Nation.

The report provides some very useful insights into the issue of home working in County Durham together with a number of practical implementation points. The report identifies the key business needs of home workers living and working within the county such as meeting space and networking opportunities.

The overriding conclusion is that this is a significant segment of economic activity, contributing an estimated 4-6% of the total GVA accounted for by County Durham.

A workshop was held on 27 October 2010 with the main objective being to discuss and review the key findings from the study and to generate cross partner actions in response to the report recommendations across Durham County Council and partner organisations.

The workshop looked specifically at four areas linked to the recommendations in the report:

  • provision of key facilities
  • networking
  • data collection and sharing
  • business support
