Deprivation, socio-economic considerations and inequality have been on the agenda for some time in County Durham and it is widely recognised that pockets of inequality and deprivation are still in evidence. A key part of the Sustainable Community Strategy is tackling this disadvantage, which can be seen as a link to key issues such as under achievement and poor health.
We want to reduce inequalities between different sections of the community and narrow the gap between the most affluent and deprived areas in the County.
We are using a variety of information to evidence need and are assessing which performance information can be reported at lower geographical levels. This will allow us to target actions to specific areas.
This will be particularly important in the coming years as scarcer resources may result in the need for resources to be targeted more effectively to achieve our aims and ambitions.
