The Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) in County Durham is widespread and diverse. It works to improve the lives of people in the county and support their communities. Much of this activity is undertaken in partnership with public sector organisations.
County Durham Compact
The County Durham Compact (PDF, 159kb) outlines the principles and commitments which guide the working relationship between the public and voluntary and community sectors.
Better Together Forum
The Better Together Forum brings together senior representatives of larger or specialist VCS organisations with a countywide remit to share best practice and look for new opportunities to collaborate. It is chaired by the VCS representative on the County Durham Partnership Board.

VCS Infrastructure Support
Support for VCS organisations is available from a variety of sources. Funding has been allocated to Durham Community Action for the coordination and provision of a volunteer centre, they also provide advice, support and assistance to frontline groups operating in the VCS and to various communities of interest.
Durham Voice is a central information point for the VCS and produces a weekly update of a wide range of information from across County Durham, including funding news, training information, activities, events and consultations. You can add your email to the distribution list.
