North East Social Enterprise Festival

Social enterprises are in our communities and on our high streets. On October 28th, 2015 they will be at Newcastle Racecourse, Gosforth Park.

  • Prepare yourself to be amazed at the scope of products and activities that will be on offer.
  • Fill your day with fun and your bag with products that help other people as well as get you ready for Christmas.
  • The festival will provide a great opportunity to shop, eat and be entertained while supporting and contributing great social value to your community.

Light, Art, the Universe and Everything, Friday 13 November 2015

A one-day conference for the curious at Lumiere 2015 in Durham, the UK's largest outdoor light festival, exploring how light can change the world through science, the arts, spirituality and public space.

Hosted by festival producer Artichoke in association with Durham County Council, Light, Art, the Universe and Everything will bring together international experts and pioneers working across medicine, culture, technology, the environment, religion, architecture and education. It will take place as part of the fourth edition of Lumiere, which returns to Durham from 12-15 November 2015.

Atom Granted Licence by Bank of England

Atom Bank announced that it has been granted its licence by the Bank of England, enabling it to push ahead with plans to launch products and services to customers later this year. It's expected to create up to 160 new jobs at its new offices in Aykley Heads.

Connection Voucher Scheme

Business Durham has assisted 15 businesses in the application of the Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme, 5 of which have been successful and 10 are pending. Businesses can receive a voucher up to the value of £3k for faster and better broadband.

Northern Futures

Northern Futures is a £10m fund to support tourism in the north of England, which will see a programme of overseas marketing activity during the 2015-16 financial year.  Visit County Durham and Northern Tourism Alliance colleagues were engaged in assisting Visit England to shape the activity and are also sitting on the Working Group for Travel Trade activity.  Demonstrating strategic cohesion and collaboration across the north, activity strands are leisure and connectivity; travel trade; business visits and events and digital.  Markets being targeted are America; Australia/New Zealand; China; Germany and the Netherlands.
