The primary aim of the Partnership is to ensure that people and organisations understand and act on their global and local responsibilities for the environment.

The partnership is working towards a future where:

People understand and act on their global and local responsibilities for the environment.
Biodiversity, upon which life depends, is protected, enhanced and celebrated.
The landscape is enhanced, conserved and enjoyed.
Town and village environments are attractive, thriving and vibrant.
Buildings and other developments are sustainable and satisfying to users.
Transport for all is convenient, safe, affordable and clean.
Energy is used efficiently and comes from renewable sources.
Adaptations to climate change have been made and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced to a minimum.
Air, land, water and the food chain are free from contamination.
Natural resources are used efficiently with waste reduced to a minimum.
Cultural heritage is conserved, enhanced and enjoyed by all.

Each organisation within the partnership is working to help achieve these outcomes, but the County Durham Partnership also has a key role to play in providing support, advice and direction on environmental issues to the other partnerships.

The Partnership includes representatives from all of the district and borough Local Strategic Partnership environment groups.
