About the Partnership

Knowledge Economy

Building a Knowledge Economy is critical to the long-term success of the County Durham economy. This theme cuts across the remit of the Partnership Thematic Groups, requiring employment sites fit for knowledge intensive businesses, business support capable of working with intellectual property rather than volume manufacturing and a workforce equipped with the skills required to work within and lead businesses competing in a global market.

This thematic group is set up in order to advise the Partnership on specific issues in order to mainstream this consideration across the Thematic Groups. Organisations across the CDEP are represented on the group and consultants and other partners are invited to attend as required.

In October 2005 the Partnership held a high profile international 'Knowledge Economy and the Regions' conference to consider the knowledge economy agenda and its relevance to County Durham.

Richard Smith is the Secretariat contact for Knowledge Economy and can be contacted on 0191 3835590 or through the contact us page.
